Even though there are many flights and I love being in the air, it seemed wrong to fly the approx. 100km from Hue to Da Nang. I found a better way: using the private taxi (Live Long the King 🙂 ), and used that as a chance to see some significant essential stops on the way to Da Nang.
And damn, that was a good idea 🙂
Two spots I decided to see:
The Hai Van Pass
The Hai Van Pass (translated as “Ocean Cloud Pass”) is a spectacular mountain pass in central Vietnam, renowned for its breathtaking coastal views and winding roads.
This historic pass once served as a natural boundary between kingdoms and now acts as a climatic divide between northern and southern Vietnam. The Hai Van Pass is a popular destination for adventurous travelers, especially motorcyclists, who come to experience its challenging curves and stunning scenery. This is mainly after the famous BBC show Top Gun mentioned the Hai Van Pass as the most precious pass in the world… You might not agree on that, I do not agree, but it’s still a beautiful pass! So you should skip the tunnel and take the pass! The view is stunning!

Ba Na Hills
If you google “Ba Na Hills”, you might get a picture of the Golden Hands Bridge. It seems like an ancient relic where two hands hold a bridge; you have to cross it either for forgiveness or enlightenment… Actually, on the 2nd view it reveals its real nature: it’s a mountain resort mixed with an amusement park that understands how to attract people 🙂
It is known for its French-colonial-inspired architecture and breathtaking natural scenery, and the already mentioned Golden Bridge, a pedestrian bridge held by giant sculpted hands, offering panoramic views. Visitors enjoy a variety of attractions, including a cable car with record-breaking length, a theme park with a fantasy theme, and beautiful gardens. Ba Na Hills offers a unique blend of amusement park experiences and stunning mountain vistas. You have to decide on your own if 40 USD is worth it; for me, it was worth it, even if it was rainy on my day.

In the afternoon I arrived in Da Nang, but this is another story.
