Visiting a million-city is always an adventure in itself. And always the question, how to explore it? Subway to the hot spots? By cab? By a tourist bus? In Seoul, I decided to walk; almost everywhere I walked to.. 186km in 8 days! I left my sneakers in Seoul; they were done, as were my calves, feet, and back.. but it’s worth it! You can see so much more while walking. Not only your target you decided to have on your list but also everything which comes along your way. Like a small kid in the candy store: “Oh look, Mama, let’s go there; it’s shiny there..” In the end, sometimes a target I wanted to visit in 5km ended up in a 15km walk….

On my day of arrival, I took the train to the inner city, yes I did not walk there; it was a 70min train ride 😉
I had a tiny hotel in the inner city next to the main shopping area in the district of Myenongdong . And tiny is still a big word; it was just a bed that filled the room completely… But I did not need more…

Walk up to the N Seoul Tower

Walking up to the N Seoul Tower in the middle of the city, I got very aware of how harmful pollution is in this big city for the first time. You cannot have a broad view, even on good days. Smog everywhere…

Gangnam Theme Street + Gangnam Hands

They are only the ones I found, there are so many more!

Figure Museum

Hongdae Street

Hongdae Street is a shopping street with a lot of bars and restaurants. The Youth of Seoul meets there in the evening, singing karaoke, having dinner, and partying. I was there more than once because it’s just fun and you have the highest probability of meeting other tourists here.

Gyeongui Line Book Street

Mangwon Hangang Park + Fountain Mirror

Seoul Sky Tower

Bukhansan National Park

Bukhansan National Park is the most visited park in the world, with ~50 Million visitors a year! I went there during the week and early in the morning. I decided to go to the park on the west side and cross the whole park to leave it on the east side. This was not my best decision, but this was the day with the most kilometers: 32km.
My only target was to reach the top, in the middle of the park. The signs of getting there are sometimes not that easy to understand, its a pretty good idea to have a plan before you start walking. I had the screenshots from their website with all English translations. This worked out 80% well… I walked some ways which I had to turn back, but in the end, I reached the other side.
