..in the middle of nowhere, my visit to Borneo.
Visiting Borneo (The Malaysian part) takes already time to travel. Via Singapur and a small “promising” plane, it takes a while to get to Kuching, on the west of the island of Borneo. From there, I went to the real jungle, Gunung Mulu National Park.
Staying in the jungle is something special. You can hear nature, and it was the first time I listened to a gecko; seriously: how can such a small animal make this noise???
At Mulu, a boat trip to a bat cave (Deer Caves) and the beautiful mangroves of Mulu.

I am flying from there to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the state of Sabah, in the island’s northern part. There I made a hike to Mount Kota Kinabalu. Due to the weather conditions, we only went halfway and did not spend a night on the top. On the way back, I tasted for the first time the most disgusting fruit ever, Durian… The smell is horrible, but at least the taste is better.

Close to Kota Kinabalu, I had the chance to see the flower with the world’s largest bloom: Rafflesia arnoldii. This rare flower can grow to be 3 feet across and weigh up to 15 pounds. They live only for 6 days and only from day 2 until 4/5 they are beautiful open.

The next stop was a small island in the east: Mantanani Island. It was some days of doing nothing, relaxing, snorkeling, even more relaxing, and eating… besides some relaxing.

From there, I went to Sandakan to see the wildlife of Borneo: Monkeys, Bears, and Urang Utans.

Last stop before heading back to “main” Malaysia, I went to another small island next to Kota Kinabalu: Gaya Island. That was the more luxurious part of the trip: with the Spa, delicious food, and some more relaxation, just in case I didn’t do it yet.
